The Hottest Summer Decorating Trends of the Moment

From playful accents to sculptural furniture, these are the summer trends in decor that design experts say you’ll be seeing everywhere.
From chic coastal styles to dramatic pops of color, this season’s trends offer something for everyone. To find out what’s hot today, we combed through Pinterest and Houzz reports and talked to top interior designers about the colors, materials, and design elements that are making waves.
Instead of highly curated spaces, this summer leans into texture, imperfection, and personality. It’s the perfect time to embrace a relaxed, laid-back vibe. “We’re seeing a shift toward decor that feels collected and lived-in—pieces that add charm and tell a story,” says a HomeGoods style expert and Featured Finder.
Whether you’re planning a total refresh or just shopping for a few new accents, these seven summer decorating trends are full of inspiration.

Elevate Coastal with Neutrals
In fact, coastal chic is a summer perennial—but this year’s version is softer and streamlined. Neutrals are at the helm, with cabana stripes, sea glass hues, rattan patterns, and light-as-air whites reigning supreme.
Layered sandy tones and deep navy are coming back in a more casual, lived-in way. The goal? Timeless, not trend. « Furniture is low-slung, gigantic, and resolutely comfortable—perfect for creating that relaxed, coastal minimalism that’s vacation-at-home, » advises Reimold.
Embrace Sculptural Shapes
Designers agree: sculptural furniture is one of the summer’s biggest trends. Houzz’s 2025 Home Design Trend Report speaks out against curvy, low-profile silhouettes like oval tables, round-edged sofas, and chunky lounge chairs.
Functional doesn’t have to be boring. Seek out furniture with arched arms, curved backs, and organic lines, along with accessories like trays and baskets with wavy or scalloped edges—perfect for softening a room while making a subtle statement.
Cuddle Up with Soft Heritage Design
The age of « soft heritage » brings back cozy, traditional spaces. Slightly muted historic charm—vintage details, sink-in cushioning, and soft luxury—define designers’ new comfort-driven look.
Even surfaces are softening. High-gloss metal is being replaced by brushed brass and champagne finish silvers, its sophisticated, understated appearance still very approachable and cozy.
Bring Desert Modern Warmth to Your Space
Summer style isn’t exclusively coastal. Trendsetters also draw inspiration from sun-beaten landscapes—à la the American Southwest, African desert, and Australian outback, says Reimold.
To achieve the look in your own dwelling, prioritize desert-inspired neutrals, sun-kissed hues, and textured fabrics like jute, raffia, and frayed leather. Daredevil? Employ a coat of warm color—chalky peach, olive green, and terracotta are everywhere this season.
Step Beyond Bouclé Textures
Don’t worry—bouclé isn’t going away. But this summer, it gets a refresh with softer weaves and new colors. And it’s not the only textile designers are loving right now.
Raw linen, washed cotton, velvet, and tweed join the trend as well. The emphasis is on hug-worthy, touchable warmth. Texture pervades, especially in woven decorative pieces—like grasscloth furniture, basketweave lighting, and chunky throws that add depth without clutter.
Infuse Joy with Playful Accents
Summer’s the season to brighten up—and so is your decor. Designers are embracing whimsical, personality-infused accents: checkerboard rugs, brightly hued ceramics, and playful glassware are big this time of year.
It’s all about bringing happiness into your house—be it a strawberry-printed vase or a fun shell-themed knick-knack. Pinterest noticed an enormous surge in searches for styles like « eclectic maximalism » and « vintage maximalism. » In fact, searches for « eclectic apartment » have gone up by 630%, reflecting the growing appetite for more personalized interiors.
Make a Statement with Berry & Jewel Tones
Each summer brings a statement color moment, and this year’s berry hues are stepping up to the plate. Berry hues and deep reds and cherry tones are popping up everywhere from plates to outdoor serveware.
Pinterest is citing rising searches like « cherry bedroom » and « dark cherry red, » which indicate a dramatic color change. Jewel tones like terracotta, indigo, and ruby are on the rise—bedecked on wall decor, tile, and plush furnishings to create rich contrast and drama.
