Sarah Jessica Parker’s in-front-of-the-camera existence as Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City and And Just Like That is so firmly planted in New York City that it’s impossible to walk around Greenwich Village without picturing one of her telltale scenes. And now, for devoted fans of the series, there’s a chance to become part of that world—literally—since Parker’s former townhouse went on sale for a staggering $29.9 million.
Parker and Matthew Broderick purchased the historic Greenwich Village house in 2011 and heavily renovated it. Interestingly, even though the renovations were done, it is reported that they never even lived there and instead utilized the building as a giant closet—a move entirely in keeping with Carrie Bradshaw’s style-conscious personality. The pair eventually sold the house in 2015 for $18.25 million, reported The New York Times.
The house is at 20. 10th Street, just a block off Fifth Avenue, the 1864 red brick Greek Revival-style townhouse stretches over five floors and 6,800 square feet and features six bedrooms, seven full baths, and two half-baths. Intact original architectural details like pocket doors and seven wood-burning fireplaces are complemented by updated contemporary details like a striking black-lacquer foyer, a 1,000-bottle wine cellar, and a two-story garden visible from a Juliet balcony. The third floor even features a cozy library and sitting room.
Of course, much of the house’s charm is simply because of where it is located. In contrast to another West Village brownstone nearby, which was immortalized on Sex and the City and has since become something of a tourist attraction, this house has a bit more privacy. That other brownstone made headlines recently when its owner had to ask nicely that fans stay away from hanging out in front.
For nearly $30 million, you may be able to own your own true piece of New York history—and all the closet room your own Carrie Bradshaw could possibly dream of, without the paparazzi.
