How to Create a DIY Faux Stone Column Using Pool Noodles

So you can easily pick up a pool noodle at the store for as low as a dollar now that summer is in full swing. Summer isn’t the only thing that comes to life. Here is an easy way to make a pool noodle out of the noodles!

Materials Needed:

Eight concrete forms Duct Tape Caulk Contact cement Spray Paint Two wooden pieces Nine noodles

Steps 1 and 2 – Measure and Cut: Trim the pool noodles in halves and cut the noodles lengthwise before marking on the concrete form I would suggest marking five inches from the top as well as three inches from the bottom on one side and then measuring from the middle and marking two twelve by twelve woods at the end.

Step 3 – Apply Contact: Once the noodles are cut, use the caulk and spray paint to adhesive them to the concrete and dip the noodles into contact cement to make attaching them easier.

Step 4 – Attach the Noodles: Finally, you will need to set the form on the marker lines and spray paint the noodle while attaching the other side of the noodle to the marker on the noodle.

Since the cement will not make the noodle stick rigidly at once, you are free to change its place, if necessary. Keep wrapping the noodles around the form, side by side, and placing the cut edges facing down.

  1. Cut the Pool Noodles To Size Since the noodles are likely to be longer than the form, cut them to suit your required dimensions.
  2. To build the round ends To shape the round ends, place a pool noodle that is not cut round the lower part of the form, and cut it to size. Duct tape the ends into place. You need to cut three rings: two to be the same size as the column noodles and one that is larger.

Put one of the two rings on one end of the column so that it has two rings while the other end has one.

With a pencil, outline the area on the wood each ring circles. Fill the area inside the outline with contact cement. Leave to dry for four hours.

  1. Set Caulk On top of the wood pieces, rest the end rings, the top and the bottom of the column.

Apply caulk in between each noodle part and in the areas where the round ends touch the wood.

Wipe your finger to smooth out the caulk lines. Keep caulking around the entire column. Allow it to cure.

  1. Use Texture Spray Spray some spray texture on the column and use a rag to pat the texture smooth on the noodles. Wait for it to dry.
  2. Primer Paint Apply the primer to the entire column and let it dry.
  3. The Column Spray Paint cover the column in “stone” spray paint and leave it to dry. When putting the column outside, cover it with a clear sealant to protect the paint.

Now you have a stunning faux stone column that is sure to beautify your house’s decor. Because of its light weight, you will need to place some weight at the bottom, if you decide to put it outside where it will be exposed to wind. So before putting the wooden pieces on the top and bottom, place some weight inside first.

Enjoy your stunning new faux stone column.
